Urdu is an Indo-Aryan language which has originated and developed in the Indian sub-continent in the medieval period of history. It has evolved out of the confluence of Indian languages and Perso-Arabic ethnic groups. Every community cutting across caste, creed, sex, religion and boundary has played a role in the creation of the vast corpus of Urdu literature through the ages. Urdu has become an epitome of secular ethos and national integration in our country. It is a language with its mesmerizing characteristics holding a torch of harmony and fostering brotherhood amongst the communities in India as well as among various Indian Diasporas beyond India. Indeed it is a language of heart and soul and its message reaches to mind directly and leaves a far reaching effect upon its listeners both in India and beyond her boundaries. This is also an open fact that Urdu has become a vehicle of communication at the level of global culture and is widely used in movies and all forms of entertainments. It is again an admitted fact that Urdu has now become the cultural language and lingua franca of the South Asians’ Diaspora outside the sub-continent, especially in the Gulf and the Middle East, Western Europe, Scandinavia, U.S.A.Canada and Mauritius in particular.
